315 on 17X9.5
For optimal racing setup, most 275/40 tires go on a 10" wide wheel, and most 315/35 tires go on an 11-11.5" wheel. So you're way over spec. CAN you do it? Sure. Is it the right setup, as defined by the tire manufacturer for best performance? Not even close.

A Nitto Drag Radial on a 9.5" wide rim is nearly optimal considering how their 315 is sized compared to every other 315 out there. I run the 315 Nitto Drag/9.5" rim and you can check it out on my website. A 10" rim would be PERFECT and an 11" rim is too much(yes I've seen it a few times). I'd like to know why Nitto made this tire so skinny. Their 275/40/17 is not wider than a stock sized 245/50/16
And my 315's are roughly 1.5" skinnier than my buddies 315.35.17 BFG Drag radials.
Would I do 315/35/17 Nitto Drags on all 4 corners? It's been done and since they're so sticky it works...haha Does anyone know if their Road Race version 2 is sized in this same way? If so, I'll start running their 275/40/17 on my front 8.5" wide rims and I'll be in heaven
Goodluck!
