Koni's arrived - what are they?
Just got a set of front Koni struts UPS'd from Summit. They were advertised as the adjustables, blah, blah, blah...but, when I opened them, I got ORANGE instead of the yellow I was expecting.
Anyone know what these are? I'm guessing something along the lines of an OEM performance part...
I'm wondering whether to return them for yellows, or will these do? They ARE adjustables, and they are replacing some lagging KYB's on my CMC race car, so they will see serious duty.
Thx...
BTW - p/n is 8741-1030-SPSS

Orange Koni's are called Koni Specials. Yellow Koni's are Koni Sports.
The part number for a 3rd gen are 8741-1030 and 8741-1030 Sport. Looks to me like your part number is generic with the SPSS designation.
I have no idea if you ordered Sports, or if you assumed that all Koni's are Sports (a lot folks think that), so obviously we don't know if you got what you paid for....... Lots of my customers don't even know there is a difference.
Sports would be smarter with higher rate springs, and I assume you are running something like 800+ pounds in a 3rd gen.

Yeah, I saw (later) that the SPSS (the orange ones) had a different designation than the Sport (yellow) ones.
And yes, I thought they would be the more aggresive yellows.
Good guess on the spring rates, but I'm a little higher - 900#. Do you think that rate will overpower the specials, and that I should return them for the correct (Sport) model?
Gotta think you would have some good advice:

Well howdy new CMCer! I hang out here occasionally. You are right about FS 01 - he fixed up my rough handling 4th gen. Much appreciated Sam! Just FYI our new CMCer is running a nice black 4th gen.
I hope so, but it's gonna be close. Not only am I doing the stuts, I've got a Baer track system, ball joints, tierod ends, control arm bushings, center link, idler arm, sway bar bushings, and sway bar endlinks to do. Whew! I think that's about it.
If I don't make it, I plan on being scary fast at ButtonWillow and Sears Point.

bsim,
Interesting. Back when I did the suspension on my 84, these were advertised as IROC special performance shocks. I had to special order them, took weeks to get them.
Anyway I have been very happy with mine.
Good luck with the upgrades.
