Engine Temperature???

Well my car has a 160 degree thermostat and I just put in a new water pump. The car likes to run about the middle of the gauge with the air on or just alittle a past that. Is this normal is their any kind of mod I could do to have the fans come on sooner? Also is it possible that the thermostat may be bad it has been theuir for 5 yrs.

THANX

Bleed the air from your system. Very easy to do. Your owners manual will tell you how to do it. You can get your PCM reprogrammed so the fans trigger at a lower temp but if there is air in your system it won't help much.

Checkout Shoebox's website at http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/4th_gen_tech1.html for instructions on how to bleed your car.

Well I bleed the system and with the fans on high the temp is coming down to about half way between the first hash mark and the middle of the gauge or 100 on my Cdn car with it sitting in park. Is this in the normal range for the car.

I would say try bleeding it first, and if that doesn't work, then you can buy a new tstat.

bleed the system..... get your fans to come on soone by getting some sort of tune... reaplce thermostat if neither of these work.

let me ask this to whomever, if a 160 thermo is put it, doesnt it have to be be set in the computer for it to be effective?

my car sits just past 100 when idling in traffic too, once i start moving it goes down. but fans don't come on, at least i can't ehar them.

i don't use my air conditioning. I've drained my system and got the air out of it as well, same deal.

i had another post on the go here but no one told me at what point on that guage is the fan suppose to turn on.

With a 160 thermo and stock programming the fans will come on at the same temperatures. So when in traffic or idling.. the engine temp will be the same as before. When your on the highway the thermo will open sooner and allow your engine to be cooler than with the stock thermostat.

So the answer is:
Yes it has to be set in the computer for it to be effective when not driving steadily.
Not it doesn't have to be set in the computer for it to be effective when your driving on the highway.
