I used a harmonic pulley puller from AutoZone. Free loaner. See pic.

For the pulley use a jaw puller. For the hub use a balancer puller. Or just pull the pulley and balancer as one unit.

I just got back from the parts store and they gave me a harmonic balancer puller. It looks like it has bolts that go into the balancer and a center shaft that pushes against the center while you turn it. Will this work ok?

I almost got that exact same tool! It looks like it would work better.

You do understand that there are two parts, right?

You do also realize that you must use something in the crank bolt hole to push against, because of the design of the hub, right?

You have read lots of threads about messing things up by trying to remove these things the wrong way, right?

So I won't be just removing the actual pulley? All I need to do is get to the Opti. Learning as I go, thanks

All you have to do is remove the pulley and you need the puller like I showed if it won't come off. You don't want to use a balancer puller-that is for removing the hub.

Ok...I'll just use the one you showed. I'll run and get it after work tomorrow and take the other one back. Should I be able to visably see if the opti is messed up?

Rob, I have a question. Why is it preferrable to remove the pulley with a jaw puller instead of a pulley puller? I used the pulley puller to remove both the pulley and the hub separately. Thanks.

How can you use the puller in your pic to remove the pulley? There are no threads in the pulley to thread the bolts into. How do you grab it?

I used a balancer puller to pull my pulley. Mine had smaller (3/8 maybe) tapped holes in the pulley. If you would like I can take pictures tonight to show you.

Just make sure when you remove the hub you take the center bolt out!!
