New here, need some help!

First off, great website! Second, my wife just bought a 1995 Z28 convertible. The LT1 is brand new to me. I am a TPI guy, I own a 1988 GTA that when I can get it to the track it "should" run 12's. So I was wondering what are the best "simple" mods to do to the LT1? Is the Hypertech programmer any good? I know the hard way that the hypertech chips for the thirdgen's are junk. Also heard that LT's are the only way to go in the header department, is this true? And the list can go on and on. So what are the best things to do with the best results, without going to big. My wife enjoys the top down cruising, but still wants to spank the odd mustang at a stoplight. God love her!

The car itself is a '95 Z28. She has the 4L60E, and the extremely exciting 2:73 rear. Any advice or help would be great guys. Also, the car has run a best time of 14.903@95.54mph at sea level. Is this where a bone stock '95 convertible should be? Thanks guys.

Well, I have a 95 Z28 convertible as well. I know you guys are enjoying it. You have picked up correctly that the LTs are the most recommended header to go with. Of course that should be coupled with a free flowing exhaust of which there are many to choose. Be sure to do a forum seach on various items; exhaust, intake, rear ends, free mods. This will give you a lot of info.Camaro Tip Site is a great place to start. You will have a lot of success using Google to find LT1 sites and following links on the sites you check out. Finally. it seems pretty widespread that the Hypertech is not the way to go. You can get a cable from AKM Cables and that site will also tell you how to get software to program the ECU yourself. Or you can do as I and others have done and go to PCMforless and he will burn you a program to download into your car. There is plenty of information on line about these cars and that's one thing that makes them so great. So welcome to LT1s and the forum.

14.95 is SLOW

car should run 14 flat....

what you want... cc306, slp cai, 58mm tb, ported heads (lt4 preferably) 1.6mm RR's, mac mid length headers, an electric cutout, tune by pcmforless, and a flowmaster cat-back

a hypertech 160 stat, a 10" 2800 stall, built tranny, ls1 aluminum driveshaft, and a 3:73 moser 12 bolt with some ET streets wouldn't hurt either

oh yeah... forgot the TORQUE THRUST II's rims... (18x11).... front drilled and slotted brembos, borla tips, aftermarket torque arm with d/s loop, slp SBC'S, 90/10 suspension, 1.5" drop, 200lb weight reduction, EGR block off, granetelli 85mm MAF, upside down ram sir scoop and a cut in the air dam for the CAI, bigger injectors, electric waterpump, ultima battery, higher rpm alternator, window motors on crack, AND A KICK *** STEREO

take care of that.. and we'll start on the 383 stroker with the 12 psi ATI blower and aftercooler...

welcome to the 4th gen f-body my friend...

its worse than crack

for the record...

if you did all that yourself...

it would cost less than $15,000 and most of that is sc'er, rearend, and tranny...

AND it would be the MOST AWSOME, quality, reliable 10 second car that could be daily driven...

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. Frmula1, I think you missed the point, the idea is not to go nuts here but just to make the car more "fun" to drive. I have gone nuts with my '88 GTA, we would like to keep one fairly stock! Again thanks guys, does anyone else have any opinions?

You can start with finding out why you are running slow.
May need new wires, coil, etc. Thats where I started after running a 14.41, then 14.60 and worse and worse. Fixed all my problems and added CAI (homeade), free mods, then gutted cat and added nittos. Went back to the track and broke 14 sec !!
Hooray! Next Im going with the LT headers and maybe a 3200 stall and possibly 3.73 gears if I can afford them. Hopefully I can get down to the 12's if im lucky without touching the motor.

Did you do anything else has a tune up HK45?? So far I have changed the oil with Royal Purple, changed the tranmission fluid with RP as well, and flushed the coolant. Next is a new set of plugs and wires, which will be done next week. What else can I do for a tune up?? I kinda thought 14.95 was slow. A friend of mine had a 1995 Trans Am and he kept running slower and slower. When he started running 16's he punched out his cat. The next track weekend he was running low 14's to high 13's. I guess the cats can really get clogged up! I may cut the wifes too. So what else can be done for a tune up?? Any help would be great guys.

What should a stock 1995 Z28 be running in the 1/4 mile anyway. With 275hp I'm guessing low 14's. Is that accurate?
