What could be causing my car to run so slow?

After racing many people, I've realized my car is definitely running way slower then it should. I can hardly beat anything other then 4 bangers and some V6's. Older body 4.6L Mustangs are beating me, stock Grand Prix GTP's are beating me... and I know I could take both of those or at least give them a good run back when I had my V6 Camaro!

So what could be causing it to run so slow? One thing... every once in a while the car will stutter like the throttle is sticking, and then it'll kinda "kick" back in and the car will lurch a bit. But it does that very rarely.

Any ideas on stuff I could check? I'm clueless. I mean besides that one problem the car seems to be running just fine... until I get my *** handed to me by cars I should easily be beating.

Plug wires can cause a symptom like you describe...my car would do that at certain throttle positions/loads. WOT was ok, but performance was definitely down. Try popping the hood with the car running in a dark area and look around the boots/coil area and the length of the wires you can see and check for a light show...if it looks like lightning, you've probably got a bad wire.

Could definately be the wires/plugs...could also be a fuel problem as well...you may wanna change the fuel filter I've seen that work miracles on cars before...its easy and cheap...it'll take literally about 5 minutes or so to do.

If you don't have a laptop and cable, see if you can get someone else who has one, and log to car to check for O2 readings, Fuel trims, knock retard, etc...

Check the fuel pressure as well...

My car was having problems because the PCM was pulling up to 11-12 degrees of timing because of knock. Turned out to be a bad knock sensor.

Also, the rear end gear in the car makes a big difference too. My car has 2.73s and worn clutch cones in the posi. That is a major factor in my problems as well.
