typical price for heads and cam
typical price for heads and cam
I have pretty much decided to get my heads ported and polished by Lloyd and get a LT4 Hotcam kit installed. My question is can I also get headers installed and stay around the 3500 dollar mark?
any help would be great.
Thanks
Joe

I picked up xe cam 224/230, 1.6rrs, new timing chain, hardened pushrods, valvesprings, retainers for 658.00, Long tube headers 472, heads ported by me, head cleanup and 3 angle valve job 180.00, misc gaskets and fluids like 100.00. Pulling 3 cars on a stock ZO6 w/ a car that doesnt even have 10000 invested including buying it......

I haven't studied it closely since I did my engine parts from many different sources but...... Take a close look at the GM Performance parts kit in Summit. It's part number NAL-gmp3287-1 or -2 depending on year.
The kit includes heads w/valves and springs, cam, intake, 1.6:1 roller rockers and all the gaskets and seals you need for $2290.00. Well worth looking into and they claim it's good for 425HP+

If I'm not mistaken the kit with the heads and everything is a LT1 to LT4 swap. The heads would still need to be ported and with install and with headers and tuning and misc... would put me well over 3500. Most of the people on this forum say that you can get almost as much power from the LT1 castings and a cam swap for much less $$
Maybe I'm setting my hopes too high, but I would like to stay around the $3500 area, and get as much done as possible.
Smoketa, sent you an e-mail.
Thanks

It all depends on what you do. My total is as follows:
Extra set of heads: $250
JPR Porting to include Manley 2.02/1.56, Tit retainers, springs, seats: $1300
Extra Manifold (93) and Powdercoating: $140
Vented Opti Swap Kit including Mezier and Cloyes: $745
224/230 Cam: $225
Chromemoly Pushrods: $108
Pro Mag 1.6 Rockers: $259
Comp rocker Studs: $25
Comp R lifters: $223
Accel 300+: $230
BBK 58mm TB: $320
Installation via JPR: $1000
Recoating of Headers: $150
Gaskets: $100
Dyno Tune: $400
Grand total: A forged 396 shortblock $5475
Granted, I could have saved some serious coin doing the install myself (no time or expertise though I could have done it), not recoating the headers, no dyno tune, cheaper pushrods, and no 300+, but I wanted everything done right the first time.
So, all depends on what you already have or don't, and what you want to put into it.

Havent personally ordered from them but the prices on their heads/cam packages looks like a real deal to me.
