Those with lots of tire experience, help me choose?
I need to buy tires in 3 weeks and keep going back and forth. I may only take the car to the track once, otherwise it's strickly a weekend driver, not a daily driver and don't plan to drive it in the rain either. I need street traction. I currently have Dayton tires 245/50/16zr and there's no traction. I was leaning towards Nitto 555 dr's on the back, but will I give up a noticable difference in handling? Will the Nitto 450's or Kumho's give me better traction than the Dayton's, and still give me adequate handling. I want to stay favorably cheap. I plan on a 2800 stall and a mild cam at most. Tell me what you would do; 2 Nitto DR's or Kumho's/450's? All in all, I definitely need more traction, but don't want to sacrifice street handling.
I'm really looking for someone who has had both Nitto DR's and street tires to tell me the difference in Street manners. If there's a big difference or not. I don't want to buy new street tires and have the same problems of spinning the tires through all of first and part of second. It's damn near useless unless you get on it at 30. I'm hoping it's just these Dayton tires I have now that are causing it.
Since no rain is involved I would highly recommend Michelin Pilots if you can afford them. Otherwise, a friend of mine has sumitomos that are as soft as DRs I swear and he gets great launches at the track with them.
