Before buying new opti
Before buying new opti
Okay I've already been on here asking questions trying to solve or make sure for certain that my opti is what I need to replace. I have a 95 trans am and it was taken on a test drive and sputted out at a light. Wouldn't start back up just turns over and thats it. I have replaced the fuel filter and I can hear the fuel pump working and there is good fuel pressure to the engine. Not getting any spark from plug when I pulled it off to test it. I pulled the coil off and had it tested at auto zone to be sure I wasn't being a goober and doing it wrong and it tested good. What are everyone's thoughts. Considering ordering new opti tomorrow from dal, but as I said just need to confirm it with myself over and over thats gonna be it.
In my experience the car still runs with a bad opti (it just runs very badly). I would check everything else associated with spark before going to the opti. What about the coil wire? I'm sure you've already done it, but I didn't see it on your explanation. This is a no brainer, but make sure the connector that plugs into the top of the opti is secure. Good luck.
Hey bud,
Id definatley check the connector that plugs into the top of the opti. I did a throttle body bypass the other day and accedentally ripped the plug out while trying to get the radiator hose connected to the other hose. When i got finished i went to start the motor and it craked but wouldnt fire. When i disconnected the radiator hose from the throttle body the motor was still to hot and it spewed hot coolant out all over the opti so i figured thats why it wouldnt start afterwards. Anyways i put it up in the air at work and changed out the opti and to my surprise it wouldnt start!!
So while i was looking back under the hood i tested the coil and still wasnt getting any spark so i began to think of what it might be. I knew the coil was good and the opti was brand new so i ended up checking that connector that goes into the top of the opti and sure enough it was busted. So now ive spenn 100 on a remanufactured opti and am about to spend another 90 on the connector plug!!
This s**t is expensive so make sure and check everything well before jumping to conclusion
Sorry so long, Good luck,
Heath
