refinishing stock T/A wheels?

Has anyone ever refinished their own stock wheels? Mine are the 5 spoke painted aluminum ones on the T/A's and the paint is chipping off. It looks like underneath is bare aluminum of the same color, so I'm not really sure why they were painted to begin with...what have people done to help fix this or even make the stock wheels look a little different?

I know this belongs in the appearance section, but I've posted it there twice with no responses

Have them glass bead blasted, then you could polish and clearcoat, chrome and clearcoat, or powdercoat any color you want and clearcoat.

Look at my website, under pictures and you can see how my wheels turned out after the powder coat. Looks really good IMO.

$35 bucks a wheel to have them bead blasted and powdered. Then a buddy of mine clear coated them for me for no charge.

Some places wanted up to 75 per wheel, but i just kept calling people and finally i found the cheapest.

doh...was hoping for a low buck solution. For that price I think I could order new ones from SLP ($50/piece). Wonder how hard it is to home powdercoat....

When mine started to go downhill I just scrubbed them down real good with an SOS pad to cut the clear coat and resprayed them with some clear from my local parts store. Total cost was about $10 and they looked like new again. The existing silver paint wasn't damaged or chipping on them so I didn't have to respray the silver. If yours are that bad it would be a good idea to follow atljar's suggestion.
