I can read most of the text in this one, but for other pics (especially in the funny pics thread) some pictures with text are impossible to read. Is there a way to disable the auto resize?

Not for just one user, no. It is to keep people from messing up the thread layout when they posts a huge image, making every person reading the thread to scroll both vertically and horizontally.
