This is how the site looks to new members without an adblock-type tool installed. This is just unacceptable. Religious ads, ads within posts, and mouse over MOVIES. Would you join a site that look liked that? Would you join CZ28 today?

I would think CZ28 was a religious cult. I would join just for the sex.

 

Honest opinion? I haven't commented much on the Internet Brands buyout of CZ28. But like everything else, message boards also follow a curve, and I think this one is definitely on the closing phase.

Chris and Jason probably sold it when there was still a bit of money left in it, somewhere after the peak/dropoff and once they realized they weren't stealing the lion's share of new 5th gen traffic (truly, I don't know--that's just conjecture).

Internet Brands likely supports itself on ad revenue, so the buyout of CZ28 is just another venue on which to display ads until everyone gets pissed off and leaves, and the board crumbles into the sunset, and Internet Brands goes on to destroy more message board communities.

Sad, huh?

My take? Let's open the discussion on religion, politics, and other taboo subjects. Either some of us will become good friends, or the board will get really exciting before it eventually burns to the ground.

Of course they'll say "Once you register you don't see that stuff."

But I agree, that type of garbage will scare off new users before they even get a chance to register. I sure as hell wouldn't bother registering with a forum that does those in-line links and all the rest of that garbage. Everyone may not notice the fine print under it saying it isn't shown to regular members.

I think it sucks. I've been a member here for 10 years. This is the only message board I constantly go to. I browse a few others on a more occasional basis, and I don't know anyone off any other board either, whereas I've met many people from here.

 

From what I've seen, most all message boards display ads in posts if you are not a member. Par for the course....simply login to solve that problem.

The ads have not bothered me one bit(except for the site being a little slow to load at times). They are in the spaces of the site that were not being used before hand.

 

On a side note, the ads are supposed to be based on your web browsing history.

No, I don't think I'd join a site that looked like that.

 

None. I saw it on two devices (iPad and a PC with Internet Explorer), both with VERY different viewing history (as IE is used 99% for work and nothing else). It's not in my history, it's in ad rotation.

 

No I wouldn't join if I was a new user. It's also pretty hilarious that there are Mormon ads and we're not even allowed to discuss religion here. I wonder if the rules have changed? Seems we should at least be allowed to discus the advertisements that support the board.
