Rack and pinion question?

My rack and pinion has a bad leak on my 95 Camaro Z/28 and I have a spare rack and pinion from a 98 v6 camaro I junked that looks to be in good shape. Would the v6 rack and pinion be compatible with the v8?

Re: Rack and pinion question?

Might be different ratios.... one of the features of the Y87 performance package for the V6 cars was "quicker steering ratio (14.4:1)". Question is "quicker than what"? Only confirms that there was more than one ratio available on the V6 cars, but doesn't explain which ratio (if either) matched the V8 models.

Re: Rack and pinion question?

Here are some pages from the parts manual that might help. It looks like there were two different rack and pinion steering units used in 1995 and both were used with the V8 and V6 engines. The suspension package ( F41 or FE2 ) seem to determine which unit was installed.
