Brake light switch availability?

I have not had any luck locating a new brake light switch for my 94 Z28 with cruise. Any one have a suggestion? Can the 95 switch be installed? Thanks.

Ask the dealer for the part #'s for years 93 thru 97. I suspect they will all be the same. Maybe even thru 2002.

Re: Brake light switch availability?

Every thing I have looked at shows 93-94 is not the same as 96 up. I a pretty sure the later switch will install but I don’t think the connectors will plug in? Thank you 🙏

You can check the harness connector faces in the factory service manual for each year. Free download of various year manuals here, courtesy of GaryDoug:

Re: Brake light switch availability?

Did a quick comparison and the '94 and '94 switches are wired differently. The 95 has brake lights and center high mounted lamp & cruise disable circuit on the same wire and pin of the switch. 94 has them on 2 wires 1- for brake lights and 2nd for CHML and cruise disable. The cavities C1 and C2 have different # of used positions for each year. WBACALL-- whats your symptom, maybe we can jury-rig around it using newer or current switch. Bob D.

Re: Brake light switch availability?

Thanks to everyone for your help. I took apart the switch and cleaned the contacts for the time being. Bob. I briefly compared the 94 and 95 diagrams and barring some slight changes in font they look identical to me? Switch, wire colors and terminals. What am I missing? I intended to get s 95 switch and replace the connectors. Thanks.

Re: Brake light switch availability?

I compared my '94 hardcopy service manual page 8a-34-1 to the " 95-SvcMan complete.pdf " page 8a-34-1 on this site " https://www.mediafire.com/?40mfgeoe4ctti#3yf11pf2a5c57 " . C1 & C2 cavity usage and wire colors were different, However it would not be the first time I've seen contradictions between the books and real life. Could be a change they planned during design (and tech writing) that they never actually implemented. Sorry to send you down an incorrect path.

I could not find a connector face drawing for the brake light switch in the 1994 or the 1995 service manuals, but if you look at the circuit schematics, the wire color and connector pin locations are the same. The drawings also show the same contact configuration for both switches. Looking in the GM parts manual, it list the connector body C1 as being the same from 1993 to 2002 and connector body C2 is the same for years 1994-2002, although the AC Delco numbers differ. This would lead me to believe the switches should interchange. I'm interested in seeing what you find out.

Re: Brake light switch availability?

Also look at the sketches of the electrical components, in section/page 8A-201-0 (1994-2006 manuals). That shows all the switches and connectors for the clutch and brake assemblies. The physical representation of the switch is identical in the 1994, 1995 and 1996 manuals. The brake switch assembly is depicted the same in all three years. C1 is always depicted the same way, and C2 is physically the same in all three, with the notation "C2 (MD8 only)" in 1994, while the notation in 1995 and 1996 is "C2 (M30 ONLY)". Even looking at the 2000 manual, page 8-720, they are using the same physical representation of the switch and the harness connectors.

I have ordered the switch and connectors for a 95 Camaro from Rock auto. I’ll let you know how it goes. Thank you!
