Alarm Issue on a 1997 Camaro
Can someone give me "detailed" information on how to disconnect (eliminate) the alarm on a 1997 F-body?
I can turn the alarm off with the remote, but if I open then close the door the alarm automatically resets. Me and a local shop have been trying for the last two weeks with no success.
Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the owner's manual? If not, plug this into the search engine "1997 camaro owners manual" and download a free one from Chevy.

I'll reach out to you George, to see what's up with the move to Florida. I was just about to email you and Cliff to see if you might want to buy my car.

GaryDoug Thanks for the reply! I have the owners manual, nothing useful in there. I just ordered a full set of shop manual's from e-bay yesterday, hopefully they will help?
Injuneer Hi Fred! It's been a LONG time Looking forward to hearing from you, hopefully you can help me with this alarm issue? Definitely interested in hearing about what you want to do with your car! I'll tell you about my new 30th SS. It already has full suspension, cam, heads, headers, gears and converter LOL BTW I sent you a PM

We could have given you a link to a free download of the factory service manual. GaryDoug has a site with a huge number of reference documents. And he is also better equipped to sort out the alarm issue.... he's the electrical engineer, I'm just the mechanical guy. He also lives in Florida. But I'll take a look at it too.
I read the PM. I'll respond. Been retired for 3 years. Amazing how I can spend so much time, and accomplish so little. We're going away for the weekend. I'll respond Monday.

Page 2-21 of the driver's manual. It outlines the theft deterrent arming methods. Mode 1 is to disable the alarm system(alarm system off).
Page 2-19 tells you how to get it into programming mode in order to set the Mode 1 option on page 2-21.
Sounds like it's in Mode 4(passive arming).
Factory setting is Mode 3. That's what mine is currently set for....the alarm will not arm unless I lock the doors with the door lock button and close the door or I hit the lock button on the transmitter with all doors shut.
