LE2 Iron Heads???

So the LT1 I have in my 94 camaro came out of a 94 roadmaster. In 6 weeks its getting the whole top end done. Due to the roadmaster engine, it still has IRON heads.
Anyway, Im torn between having the LE2 setup done even though they're Iron Heads or getting AFR 195'S.
Has anyone had lloyd do Iron Heads, he told me he can do a lot more to them compared to the factory f-body aluminum heads.
On the other side, AFR'S new LT1 195's are apparently bolt on and dont require an Lt4 intake. Any truth to this, they have lt1 and lt4 195's on the website.
Stick with Iron or pony up for aluminum and lloyd mess with the afr's next year

Re: LE2 Iron Heads???

stock LT1 iron heads flow better than stock GM AL heads...

Lloyd can make any head perform better. You have the iron heads so having Lloyd work those would be cheaper than buy any other head and then having him work those

Downside of iron heads is weight if that is a concern

Iron heads need RR studs pulled and machined for screw in studs if moving up to 7/16" RR studs

Re: LE2 Iron Heads???

I could be mistaken but I think aluminum heads, due to better thermal transfer, allows more advanced timing and, therefore, more power.

Find a set of aluminum heads to have done by Lloyd...you'll be better off from both weight and power standpoints.

I have a stock pair somewhere I'm not using...pm me if interested.

Re: LE2 Iron Heads???

Thanks for the replies guys. Im still debating on which route to go with. I know all the work that has to be done to the Iron heads and Lloyd pretty much covered everything mentioned above and sent me an entire list of top end parts I'd need to go with the head and cam swap, when I talked to him. I see why everybody recommends him.
guess Ill know in about 5 weeks.
And yes I will be putting 3:90 gears in it just to be different, a dyno tune, suspenion, and exhaust, etc. all the goodies.

Re: LE2 Iron Heads???

Why not just pick up a good set of aluminum heads, as be hunter suggested? I sold mine, about 60K miles, the preferred 643 castings, for $200. LE3 ($1,600) flow should match the AFR Street versions ($1,800), although the Competition versions ($2,325) will flow a bit better... good for strokers.

Re: LE2 Iron Heads???

If le2 flow isnt matched to afr streets then my choice is made. I wasnt looking to get an le3 package. Extra $200 or so for afr's seems like a better option.

Do the new 195cc streets fit on an lt1 intake?
Is it really just a bolt on head or not?
There 2 options for afr 195's. One says its for lt1 and another for lt4. However all info I read about says I need to port match the gaskets or get an lt4 intake?
