Arrow BBC build .... UK newbie

Hi Guys, my first post with the group from UK.

Im swapping (301) out the motor in my Firebird with a BBC 454 ... i have a 1979 454 block (hi perf pass) thats now going .060, the heads i got with it are 1972 291 casting, the pistons i have .060 are silvolite and -30cc dome.

I want to achieve circa 500bhp but what cam is good for this install ? i like a lumpy but slow idle personally. Im guessing its not far off an LS6 motor.

My intake is edelbrock performer rpm with an edelbrock performer 800cfm carb.

I need some advice on direction. I got the block, crank, heads, pistons for £500 so tryińg to make the best of what i got.

Not sure how likely you are to get a meaningful response. Right now, this site is being held together by a small core of 4th Gen Camaro (and a few Firebird) enthusiasts. Most of the people who have experience with the older engines and earlier generations do not seem to come around much any more. Not sure where they all went to.

Might get lucky and get some help, but just thought you should know that it isn't promising. Wish I could offer a more positive response.

Hi from Lancashire, where are you?

What's the power rating on the stock motor?
Carb, manifold headers and a good exhaust will wake it up.
Compression ratio. -30cc pistons sounds like low compression. Also Depends on chamber volume, deck height, gasket thickness.
Depends on build and future upgrades like power adders.

Where do you want the power?, cast crank won't wind too high.
Emissions, does it need to pass mot test?.

Other questions. Transmission, 301 is Pontiac motor. Is trans chevy or BOP mounting. Will it survive. Guessing it's not a TH350 with the 301.

HTH for now.
