4.10 gears

Hey guys I have a 94 lt1 camaro z28 m6 pretty much all mods that are common I.e. long tubes pace setter headers, cam is bigger than stock Idk what one seller told me he put a different one in. Egr delete,ac deleted,tb bypass, bigger throttle, moroso cold air intake, .all suspention mods are done.

but I forgot to ask him about the gears in the differtial. I think he said it has 3. 42. But I was thinking about trying the 4.10 gears are they worth it. It's a daily car sometimes, but always a weekend car. And I'd like more power

Re: 4.10 gears

i have 410's in a similar car and i love them. its a beast in first and second and makes 6th gear somewhat usable. not sure about the 410's in a stock 10 bolt rear - i hear it may make the rear weaker

Re: 4.10 gears

Go with the 4.10’s. When my car still had the original T56 trans, I bought the 12-bolt with 3.73's. It was "OK".... but eventually 4.11's were a lot better, exactly as described above.

Re: 4.10 gears

I have fancied the idea of 410 gears in my m6 too. With my current 342 gears my first gear just spins the tires like im on ice. 2nd gear starts roasting from a roll once rpms hit 3500. I feel like 410's would need drag slicks for any traction at all. Already feels like im shifting all the time with 342's.
Cam/full bolt ons/ rear susp mods.

Re: 4.10 gears

Do you have a magnetic base dial indicator, a pinion depth checker, and an inch-pound torque wrench? Very difficult, very messy job. Pinion depth, backlash, gear contact pattern, and pinion bearing preload must be set up exactly right, or the gears will scream loud enough to drive you crazy.

JMHO.

Re: 4.10 gears

I too would go with 4.10:1 gears in a M6.

Re: 4.10 gears

I ran 4.10s for years, destroyed my first set with ET Streets in 3 months. Just remember our 10 bolts DO NOT last very long with a 6 speed!
4.10s
3.90s
3.73s

Re: 4.10 gears

Heck yea guys just got the camaro back and i love the 410 gears, but I have a some things to ask.

1. The shop wants me to bring it back to them at 700 miles,to check out for leaks, swap fluid, check for any metal particles in the differential,to check gears to make sure they are broken in.

2. Some of my friends got gears done but at a different shop, and they didn't mention they took their camaros back for what I mentioned above. But the place said to follow the instructions to so I don't void the warranty.

3. The paper also said to avoid heavy acceleration and flooring the pedal so the gears can get broken in.

Re: 4.10 gears

Makes sense to me. Why wouldn't you want to have them check it out and keep the warranty in force by doing a simple fluid evaluation and gear check. Do as they suggest, and you most likely are going to maximize the reliability of the install.

hey gaedbo no I figured that was important n it does make sense. I didn't wanna listen to my friends bcuz they said after their gears were installed they never went back to the shop. But their gears whine pretty loud. Hey thank you for the reply n information

Re: 4.10 gears

Even GM required a rear axle lube change on a new 4th Gen. The FACTORY maintenance requirements (applied to the original purchase) for the limited slip rear indicate that rear end lube should be changed at the vehicle's first oil change. I had my 94's rear axle serviced by a dealer, even though from day one I was doing my own maintenance. After the first change, the FACTORY maintenance schedule has no requirement for further lube changes. And because I had dealer service records, there was no question when the FACTORY rear developed bearing noises within the FACTORY warranty period. Rebuilt at no cost.
