Painting Sail Panel

If I have the adhesive (discoloring) starting to show through the panel can I just repaint it or will it just come back through?

Re: Painting Sail Panel

Kinda stinks no one answered this a year ago when you asked. Ill post a response incase you're still wondering, or if others on the forum woud like an answer. The bubbling (or discoloring) showing through from the adhesive is from the bubbling of the adhesive, releasing a gas that reacts with the paint. Unfortunately, just scuffing up the paint and reshooting it wont solve the problem. It would look good for a while, but eventually it will react with that paint as well. However there is some good news. If your handy at all, its not terrible to remove that pannel all together to fix it. Piano wire (I used guitar wire, 10 bucks for a cheap pack of 6) can slide under the panel and kind of saw through that adhesive. Being patient and not breaking the panel, you can remove the panel, and then remove the adhesive. Buy some new adhesive at a auto parts store (3M Urethane adhesive), and while the panel is off, go ahead and repaint it. With the new adhesive is shouldnt discolor it anymore. I didnt have the bubbling problem, but i had to remove my sail panel because of scratch marks and i wanted to repaint it. During my research I came accross this problem. Stinks that GM wouldnt warranty this problem.
