Need help detailing this Jetta->
It's my mom's car, 2001 Jetta in Dark Green
I washed it and started waxing it today and It took me an hour alone on the hood! it still feels sandy and grinmy, it's a commuter car that gets washed every other month and waxed "maybe" 3 times in it's life. I'm just trying to bring it back to some kind of standard.
The paint does have scratches, but it's just plain chalky and you cant see any kind of reflection in it.
Is a clay bar the answer? my cars are always clean so I just apply wax and their like glass, this one's becoming a challange- what do you guys recomend?

Re: Need help detailing this Jetta->
And when you wash, use Dawn. Dawn is used to tear down everything, since it's a strong degreaser. After the car has been fully torn down, clayed, and waxed, then do not use Dawn on further washings since it also removes coats of wax. Use a car wash soap that's designed to leave wax on.

If the bar doesnt help, it kinda sounds like oxidation. In which case you can hand wax for days and make a small dent. Get a buffer, if you know how to use one!, or take it somewhere to get the exterior done.

Thanks
I found a new favorite product Kit scratch and swirl remover which works great!
I'll look into the clay bar thing soon.
Thanks again.
