Maguiar's polish on SS hood looks sandpapered!!
WTF, when I bought my NBM 02 SS, the jackasses that detailed before pickup (after specifically being asked not to) swirled the crap out of my paintjob. So I waited about 6 months to claybar and polish it to let the paint harden completely. I washed, claybared, and polished the car with Maguiars. I have used maguiars for years, and I polish and claybar about every 6 months. My 94 Z28 is 8 years old, I am the original owner and it has always been an outdoor car. People always comment on how amazing my black roof and car still look new, no swirls when clean! Well, my SS hood looks like I waxed it with sandpaper. The whole friggin hood is swirled unbelievably bad. The rest of the car is crystal clear. WTF caused this, is the SS hood paint that soft? Its sickening to look at, and always been garage kept and pamered from day 1!!! How do I get rid of the swirls?? I am so sickened by the sight of it, I finally got off my *** to purchase some Zaino. I have used Zaino in the past, and I know it is superior, but it is the hassle of purchase that has kept me away. How is it with swirls? i haven't used it to get rid of swirls, my paint care has never brought me to such worries. TIA

Yeah, that sucks. I'm not completely sure, but I have heard that the aftermarket paint that is used on the SS pieces is low quality and swirls very easily. Does your spoiler look or act the same when you touch it with a polish or wax?
As far as removing the swirls or restoring your hood to a uniform gloss, it sounds like you need a fine abrasive to level the surface and start over fresh. Zaino will NOT remove swirls or clear up cloudy paint. It is primarily used as a final protectant. If I were in your position, I'd try the 3M SMR or Meguiar's 2.0 SMR first. If neither work as desired, move on to a little more aggressive product like 3M Finesse It-II. The Zaino Z5 is intended to restore and "fill" the light micro marring that occurs frequently on daily drivers from normal swirl inducing activities, like washing, polishing, or driving. If your hood is in as bad a shape as you say, Zaino will probably do little to restore it to perfection. This is why you may need an abrasive, for it's leveling and removal abilities. After you have it cleaned up, then use the Zaino polishes for the final touch of perfection.
Also, what kinds of towels are you using for buffing the polish and wax? As small as it sounds, a towel can make a BIG difference on your final resultsas far as clarity and marring goes. Some will literally scratch the crap out of the paint, others are baby soft. And, having soft paint, doesn't help any, which is why you definitely need gentle towels. Also, what are you using to actually apply the polish and wax on the car? Is it clean and free of contamination, like dust, dirt, or other small particles?
Keep a watch at ZainoBros, there may be a fantastic swirl "removal" alternative in the future, designed to specifically work with the Z polishes... But, you didn't hear it from me...

I use pretty expensive bath towels for my car. And I never dry in a circular motion. I lay the towel down, let it soak in, and sweep right to left. It was definately caused by the polish. It pisses me off because I used the polish to remove the swirls, and it got worse. I have used the same procedure on my Z and I have never had swirls like this, and only on the hood no less.
Yeah, you are about the 1,000 person to complain on this board about the extremely soft paint that SLP applied to their cars. But some like Kevin V who posts on this board has the exact same car and color, he has used Zaino on it from day one with NO abrasive polishes AT ALL and his is fine (I have seen it in person)
I think the 3M Swirl Mark remover part number 39009, an orbital buffer, a foam pad, and lots of Z-5 are in your future unless you have the hood painted on your own.

I wish that I had known about it. Its pathetic how bad it swirled. I just don't see how the swirl remover and an orbital buffer are going to remove them, probably just replace them with some more.
Nothing but Zaino ever touched my 99 SS or my 2002 SS. Never any swirl marks, even under alot of bright flourescent lights. The SS hoods and spoilers have always been known to be too soft, I'd never use any kind of abrasive product on mine.
