Leaking hatchback?
Leaking hatchback?
It's starting to be rainy season again here in South Florida, and when it rains here it pours.
The T-Tops leak a bit when it pours, but it's just a few drips, however now when it rains, the T-Top storage area is getting filled with several inches of water. I cannot for the life of me figure out where the water is coming from.
The weather strippiing on the hatch seems fine, and if I put the security flap down it doesn't get wet, nor does the shelf behind the back seat.
One of the places the T-Tops leak is on the passenger side near the very back. Water runs down the big plastic piece between the window and the hatch, but gets absorbed by the seat, and it's not that much water, it gets slightly damp, not soaking wet. Is it possible that water is somehow getting behind the plastic and coming out in the trunk? It seems rather far fetched, but I don't really know what is going on behind there. Is that even possible?

So, if you put the flap up there is no water, but with it down you get the storage area flooded? If that's the case, the only thing I can think of is that when the flap is down, there is a slight pressure differential that does not exist in the storage area when the flap is up. The flap being up somewhat seals the rear compartment, but when it is down the pressure will equalize to the rest of the cabin. If the interior of the car is lower pressure than the exterior of the car, or at least the area right by the hatch above the rear bumper, the difference is the pressure may be allowing water to be pulled under the weatherstripping at the rearmost part of the hatch. This of course would only happen while driving at speed. Sound a little farfetched, I know, but that's the only thing I can guess that would be affected by having the flap up or down. I'm not even sure the flap can seal well enough to make that much of a difference, but again it's weird that the flap being up or down seems to determine if you get flooded out or not

No, I think you misunderstood. The flap doesn't make any difference. But it doesn't stop the water either...but I don't see how it could get in the small gap between the flap and the back...it'd have to go uphill...I take it to the carwash pretty regularly and water never gets in even spraying directly at the hatch...I probably will tommorrow, but I somehow doubt it will get full of water...in some ways, I hope it will, because at least then maybe I'll have some idea of where to look.
