is it possible to have the clear coat striped and a new one put on without re painting the whole car? i brought the car to a detailer to see if he could make it look better but he said that the clear coat is starting to crack and there is nothing he can do about it. i will try to get a close up picture of the hood tomorro. I cant afford a paint job rite now, so i hope that it is fixable
thanx guys

It is not as easy as stripping off the old clear and spraying more. Is the whole car doing this or just parts of it? If it is the whole thing then all the clear would have to be sanded off. Chances are it will have to be at least spot painted before applying the clear. Either way it will not be cheap. If you lived around here I could do it for around $1500. I could even paint you some stripes or flames or something if you want.
lol thanks for the offer but i live in new york, it is the whole car. the problem is that the front bumper has a rip in it and I want to get a new hood, i figure that it will be impossible to match the paint if the clear coat is starting to deteriorate, and while the clear coat is off they can fade the old color into the new one. i want a new paint job, but id rather put the money where it counts
lol thanks

Better paint it all. Can prolly get it painted all over for 1200-1500, depending on color? And when did other things come more important than the outside appearence? These are camaros not fox bodies

haha if i can get a quality paint job for 1200-1500 buks then ill paint it hot pink lol not happening around here anyways except macco which im kinda leary about, we will see, i think im gonna take it to the body shop tomorro and see what he thinks

no offense, but don't go to maaco..
i've heard a lot of negative feedback
they don't strip the paint first.. nor do they use quality paint. it ends up cracking/fading within two years.
for a $500 paint job.. what do you expect??
jesus people.. haven't you ever heard of "you get what you pay for?". there IS truth to it
