You cant keep a car nice around here!
Please tell me I'm not the only one with a chiped up front end!
They are always doing road construction and lots of dumptrucks on our roads, I was driving on Rt 80 the other day and no trucks in front of me, but it was like driving on a dirt road! All kinds of stuff was kicking up, I backed way off but was getting pelted with crap!
After washing the car last night I discovered the front bumper is wrecked! One drive chiped up the front bumper more then my camaro got in 5 years! It looks awful!
The GTO Had a pretty chiped up hood when I bought it, but it seems these rock chips are all deep! none are surface! they all took gauges out of the hood and bumper!
I worked for that company one time that did the 3M bra's and I wont put that on this car.
I see my options as getting the front bumper re-painted, but while I'm at it, I might just buy a ram air hood and get that painted too.
I think it was about $900 when I got my Camaro hood and rear bumper re-sprayed fixed, is that normal and what I can expect? Is it worth it?
I'm just upset that this one drive messed it up so much more!

alot of shops dont like to re-do bumpers. Most would prefer to get a new bumper cover and paint it. as far as price, if it were my car, i wouldnt settle with any paint less than 200 dollars a pint, plus prep, and shop time, maybe 1300 for hood and bumper.

I know how you feel. I only have 20k miles on my car and wasn't doing to bad until I took a trip to my parents this summer. I was driving down a four lane blacktop and right as I was getting there some moron mowing his lawn with a rider turns right up his gravel driveway. I received about 5 chips from that one incident.

You might try something like this: http://www.autogeek.net/langka-paint...epair-kit.html

I'm going to try some paint chip repair over the winter (practice on my Grand Prix first.
I want to find something like the clear bra, but I don't want it to be permanent. I want something cheap that I can put on for road trips but then remove when I get to my destination.
I might consider a regular bra, but I was always concerned that they would rub against the paint. Are these easy to remove and install with no visible hardware when off? Do they make one that fits well with the SS hood?

repaint it or have a professional buff/repair job done. Then find the company that makes those plastic protective films to cover your front end ad 3"'s of your hood. They're only like 200 bucks and it looks like nothings there at ~5 feet away
edit: just read above post about clear bra, oops

I have alot of gripes about the clear bra, it works great if the car is brand new! But slightly used NO!
I dont like the lines of it, I had wax always stuck in the one on my camaro-
You could always tell it was on, the paint just didnt shine right-
And the worst- I tried removing the one on the Camaro and it riped the paint OFF the hood! I had to get that re-painted! (that was on a hot day with a blow drier)
If I ever put that on a car again I'd only do the bumper and headlights, not the hood or fenders.

3M makes a clear adhesive material that you can cover your front end with after you get it repainted. I can't remember what it is called, but supposedly, it is practically invisible.
Thanks
We have a traveling guy at work that does paint work on bumpers and I might see what he can do, he seems to do a pretty good job.
I also might wate till the spring. The GTO has more of a flat front good for catching debree.
I have to think about this some more, but most likely it will be re-painted. Just the deep gouges in the hood are awful too so I dont know.

you can try the clear bra...but many people do not like it that show their car off simply because IT CAN be seen up close. The best thing to do is just be very careful where and how you drive. Leave a solid 3 car lenghts between you and another vehicle...especially big trucks...do not drive quickly down roads that look to be dirty or could possibly contain pebels and rocks...and if its windy and **** is blowing around...then dont drive the car if u can afford not to..

I try, Like I said I had the Camaro 4-1/2 years and it looked pretty darn good dispite, all this happened in only one drive! The road is an Interstate highway! And was COVERED in stuff! Like a truck dumped it all! Originally Posted by CamaroZBoy

I went from 65-45 but made no difference, the stuff was kicking up anyways.
The GTO Also Seems to chip and scratch VERY easy! The Camaro was pretty durable! Anything that touches this car gauges it rarther then scratch!
I just might wate till the winter's over. I have some of the Clear bra material left over from when I worked there, so maybe I'll make something for the lower bumper or hood if I get this repaired.
It's probably nothing to most, but to me I notice it.

Oh man, if you wanna talk about chipping paint... just look at the front bumper of any Toyota. My Corolla has so many paint imperfections it is AMAZING. It is literally covered in them. The paint Toyota uses is just too thin and they are too cheap with it.
