Post Engine cleaning

To clean and engine, what is the best way? I was going to go to the self wash place and use their low pressure engine cleaner. I used this on a truck to get the mud out but never on my car. And on my 94? what do I need to try and not get wet?

Cool

i would not use a hose of any sort on our cars. too risky getting the opti wet $$$$$$$

just fill a plastic spray bottle with water, cover the opti with saran wrap, or old towels and lightly spray the engine bay down with engine degreaser or simple green.(make sure your motor is cool to the touch) be sure to angle the spray towards the firewall (away from opti area)

allow to soak and get a little brush to dig out any stubborn dirt/grease spots. use your spray-water bottle ro rinse after 10 mins. of the degreaser soaking in. again, be sure to shoot your spray water bottle away from the opti area.

wipe off any excess water, remove your opti-rag and start up. let it run and get hot to burn off any residual water.

if you want a more "new car" look, mix some armor all with the spray bottle water (70/30 mix in favor of the armor all) and after shutting off and cooling the motor, cover up your opti again and lightly spray the plastic parts of the engine bay with the armor all mixture. let that soak 10-15 mins, and then re-apply once or twice more. when everything is nice and black and shiny, wipe off excess and repeat above steps to dry off the engine again.

s/b lookin real good and new by now!

good luck, and keep moisture away from the opti at all costs.

thqt is what I thought about the opti. I have a friend I work with that owns a car wash and detailing. he has not heard of a opti and said he sprays the motor down.

Never, ever use a pressure washer on a LT1 engine. Some people do it and have done it but is it worth risking $500.00+?

Just get in there with a rag, some simple green and some elbow grease. It may take a while but I will turn out better and youll save some money too.

Question

I have a 2000 LS1, is there really anyting to worry about if I wash mine? I know to keep the water away from the coil packs but other than that I don't think I should have a problem. Does anyone have some input on this?
