Chamois use and care

Curious as to how everyone uses and cares for their chamois.

Some questions:

1.) What kind of prep do you do to the chamois before you use it, when you first buy it and also before you use it each time?

2.) How do you store your chamois?

3.) Do you dry your car / let your car dry completely before using the chamois, or do you use it while it's still soaked and wring it out often? In other words, do you dry the car so that you can see water spots, and then wipe the spot with a damp cloth and then chamois it, or do you use the chamois initially.

4.) Bunched up in a wad or spread out?

5.) Sideways motion, circular motion.... ?

6.) Do you use it only after washing a stripped car and are preparing to wax it, or do you use it on a waxed car as well?

Any other chamois information would be greatly appreciated!

I quit using leather chamois over 15 years ago, I use The Absorber Chamois now.

Before I start using it, I fold it twice so that it's square and fits neatly in my hand. I pull across the body of the car, always in the same direction. When it's too damp, I wring it out and continue.

Once I'm done with it I rinse it out, wring it out, and store it slightly damp in the container it came in.

Hopes this helps.

The Absorber is man made, soaks up more, does not strip wax, and does not dry out and get hard. Buy one at WalMart for 9.99

As an experiment I had two of them. One I would store completely dry, and the other I would store wet. I found the one that was stored wet to work better when it was time to be used.

Cool deal. I soaked mine and washed it out and then stored it in a bucket of water last night.

I'm thinking that the chamois my grandfather had was one of these absorber chamois (is chamois the plural form of chamois?) because it seemed to work better. Either that or it was better quality.

What material is the absorber chamois made out of?

Some kind of foam, like dense pore foam. The Absorber is stored damp and wrung out in the special container it comes in, just go to the wax section at WalMart and get one.

Absorber is 8.99 or 9.99 and last about 5 times longer than a leather one.
