engine washing

I know there isnt a lot of traffic in this section but i wanted to ask about degreasing engine. I have a 96 SS with 7900 original miles. I dont think the engine bay has even been cleaned. I think it just needs some simple green and a hose. Should I cover the opti up? will it matter? Anything else i should cover? Thanks.

Re: engine washing

Be prepared for it not starting and being unhappy for a day afterwards.

Let us know how you get on !

Re: engine washing

DO NOT GET THE OPTI WET!!!!!!

And it seems like these cars have some issues with wiring that cracks....

So in a nutshell - You may end with a clean engine that won't start or run properly....

I would opt for hand cleaning with a spray bottle and carefully control what gets hit with cleaner - heck maybe just wet a micro-fiber and rub off the dirt....
