4th Gen LT1 factory front bumper paint help
I having the front bumper on my 97SS repainted due to rock chips spiderwebbing etc. I have ordered a new GM cover since the one on there was a replacement when I got into a minor crash in 2000 that cut the original. The body shop painted the whole thing red and then blacked out the headlight pockets and lower fog light area with black paint. My question is how was the bumper from the factory? I remember it not being black paint in those areas?? Though it was just the black urethane the bumper came in? Please advise on proper technique my car is going into the shop on thursday. Thanks, Derek |

I'm not sure if they were painted or not but it appears to at least have a clear coat over it to give it a little bit of a shine.

I believe the factory was matte paint, not clear in the light wells and lower mouth.

Well it does not matter now. The bumper comes rough primed from GM, so they have to be painted black.

There are photos in this thread of several seemingly “original” 93-97 Camaros, clearly showing the matte black finish.

Re: 4th Gen LT1 factory front bumper paint help
Yes. They are definitely matte black and were when the original bumper was on the car. They are painted matte black right now but the previous body shop painted the whole bumper red then blacked out the areas. The red is starting to chip through from rocks etc.
