I own 2 '95 Z's and both gauges hover just above the 1/4 mark.
The bottom mark is 160* and the top-most 260*, which gives us
a 100 degree spread; the 1/2 way mark would be 210* and the
1/4 mark...

rely on the gauges.

Not a good idea. As already mentioned, unbolt the T.C. and remove it
with the tranny. It will make a BIG difference when it all goes back in,
because you'll need to drop the T.C. onto the input...
