That temperature is typical of a normal LT1. Once you are driving it you’ll notice that the temp stays a good bit cooler than what it idles at. These cars idle hot.

You are correct, the head sensor is only connected with the gauge. It is not abnormal for the temperature gauge and the computer to show two different temperatures. Mine is about 15 degrees off. Also...

The hardest part was by far replacing the passenger side valve cover gasket :D just kidding... This is my third optispark to put on the car including the original when I rebuilt it 10k miles ago so...

It’s been awhile since I updated y’all. Currently the car is running well, again, and has no leaks as of yet that I can spot. Thanks for the help guys.

Wow, that sounds like a lot more work than I was hoping. Would it be possible to just slightly pull the right side of the timing cover off and slip some rtv down there to seal it up? Because I don’t...

Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner chimera96, but yes it’s the timing cover gasket. You’re correct, the oil pan has been off before. You may not remember it, but this is the engine that I rebuilt...

Thanks for the instructions. I may have to try the home made version. The first time I did seals I put the seal on the spline shaft and that worked great. The seals only have about 9-10k on them so...

Thank you all! It was leaking some oil somewhere near the opti so I suppose that could’ve been the possible liquid or greasy buildup that cardo0 mentioned. Unfortunately it’s just a oreillys...

Nothing else was abnormal that I saw. It drove perfectly then just backfired, stuttered, and died.

I am of no help here, sorry, but maybe shoebox can help. This article talks about which valves are open and closed at what positions the balancer is at....

If I remember correctly, the harmonic balancer should have an arrow or dot on it and when it’s pointed straight up it’s at tdc. IIRC
