M6 cruising rpm's, shift points?

Just got me an '99 Z28 with the 6-speed. Car is bone stock to the paperfilter and cags!!!
I'm just wondering when are you shifting into sixth? How bad/good are low rpms (1000-1200rpm) for the engine?
