Should i do a t-top conversion since i gots no t-tops??

i know i've only got a crappy v6... but i gotta say having t-tops make my car better than most (in general, aka hondas etc, not here)... thats just my opinion... but t-tops are soooo nice in the summer, and they make your car look super nice, especially your's, ollie, with that wing, hoochie moochie that'd be nice....
when i get my 98-02 LS1 camaro/firebird (which will be my next car, in 2 or 3 years), it will have to be with t-tops... although, wouldn't it be scary chopping the roof of your car.... i'm sure you know what you're doing, but even still.... |

well, maybe, if you do a really really good job on it.. Heard it not too hard since internally, all f-bod's are t-tops. |
I could be wrong but don't T-top and Vert Camaro's have more support under the car to make up for the lack of support on top?
I thought this was why Verts and Tees weigh more than coupes. So suppose that's true - wouldn't making a coupe into a Tee make it sturcturally unsound? I know plenty of people have done it though - there's always someone in the Appearance Lounge bragging about it....... I suggest you do a seach in there and see what you find. Good Luck!:) |
Dude, t-tops are great, not as great as verts but still give our cars that extra look. I say if you have the time and tools, go for it!

Good Luck!:) only the verts have different frames for support, the t top cars have the same frame underneath. t top cars outweigh hard tops because the t tops them selves add weight. all the hard tops have is a layer of fibreglass, the t tops have glass tops. ive thought about doing theis conversion myself so i looked into it. if you get subframe connectors it makes very little to no difference, obviously the hard top car has a more rigid frame. ollie do a search or hit me up on msn i have some links to sites that have done this. personally im happy with the way my hardtop looks so ill be keeping it a hard top. and i rarely see t top cars take their t tops off in the summer time. |
i kinda agree, its stupid, i always see these cars with t-tops, with the tops on, in like 30 degree weather... the slightest hint of sun and a bit of warmth, mine are off... summer time is definately my fav. time with my car... i need to move back to L.A., though and enjoy the t-tops year round (except for those fires)

I actually prefer the solid roof to T-tops. Cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter. And I think cars look smoother with the solid roof design. The T-tops just don't blend in as well.

i posted yes cause i still am leaning toward doing it on may car but not sure if i want to . if you screw up then what . :confused:
its not tops on priority right now. but still thinking about it ill come watch if you do it to getan idea of the difficulty .it doesnt seem to hard from what i ve seen but... |
I've see the same thing all the time too.
People driving around on a 30 degree day with the Tees on....... I've even told a girl that was in her Nissan to take her top off.;) If it's not raining - the tops come off for me. I've had to stop on the freeway a couple of times to put them on because it started to rain and I didn't have them on. |

T-tops rule!!!! Mine are off as much as possible. I would recommend getting someone who really knows what they are doing instead of a hack job!!

I love my T tops. They're off almost all summer long. Great for road trips too. I personally like them better than the convertible, since no one can slash 'em, which i've seen done to lots of converts.

you'd have to be incompetent to do a hack job, from the many websites ive looked at showing how to do it, any many were first timers on the board, its fairly easy. once you remove the fibre glass top, the t top frame is already there, the ridge for the weather strip is there, and once you cut the side frame off that connects the a pillar to the b pillar the t top brackets are there. fairly simple to do shouldnt take more then a weekend. personally i just like my hard top, thats why i think i wont bother.

Well, looking at the parts book,the windshield side supports are different,the roof panel inner support is different.
also, not structural, the windsheild reveal and garnish mouldings are different. Gerry. |
