Paging Ls1 Cam Swap Gurus ( Sleeper )

I need a godamn cam cause my car is slower than a dump truck na . . .

- How long did it take to swap the cam out and what if any probs did you guys encounter ??

- Did you purchase the spring swap tool or what did you do to swap your valve springs
- If I just do a rocker swap with the yella terra 1.8's ( in stock at mopac : ) ) are they just a swap in type deal

Ive read the faq's and crap on the instal university but I just wanted some real info closser to home

I wouldnt bother with a baby cam.... go for a MTI hammer cam or something. You will want more if you go with a small grind .

Do headers after and you are laughing.

Yeah . . . I dunno Ive seen too many guys on ls1.com and ls1tech with big lumpy *** coffee spilling cams having tuning issues , not putting down the advertised power not to mention service engine lights and mad valvetrain abuse . I dont think you can beat the value of the 02 zo6 cam . It requires no tuning ( although its a benifit ) and really nice gains , especially on 01 02 fbodys with the " penut " cam

Here are some specs

01-02s Fbody- 198/197 Dur @ .050, .478/.478 lift, 115 LSA.

2002 LS6 Cam - 204/218 .551/.547 LSA:117.5

supposed to idle better than a stocker with the 117 lsa and pull all the way up to 6400 .

gp 425 $$ includes everything to do the swap right down to the gaskets and pulley bolt ( which I hate )

Although I have looked at those new lg cams putting out over 400 rwhp and rwtq with stock heads Too much cam for me though !!

Yeah, some guys are putting down some decent numbers (20-30 rwhp) with just that cam and staying emissions legal (if that is your concern) - and dirt cheap. On the other hand, LG's cam is putting down great numbers (420rwhp+ with just the cam) being more aggressive.

I understand from Servio that its about a 6-8 hour job first time round, but speeds out second time around. He has all the tools for the LS1 swap - he might be a good guy to reach. Sleeper should have some good feedback too.

I wouldn't go for the 1.8s. They won't really work well with you IF you end up going more serious in the future (and you know as well as I do that the moment you add something like a minor cam, the next step is something BIGGER). Too much lift.

Yeah your probably right !! Something about the words " In Stock " just makes me want them even more Maybe Ill just go with the 1.7 jessels or yella 's , compatable with the larger lift cams . Daily drivability is the MAJOR factor , I dont want to turn my car into a pig which is no fun to drive

Sounds like youve been researching cams too Chris

No real times or anything twitch been working out other bugs. But car feels great i ran it last year a week after the swap with a toasted clutch. I think i hit the stock revlimiter in pretty much every gear. It ran around 109.3 MPH which aint great but if you get rid of the bouncing into the revlimiter and actually letting the car wind out into the cams peak power i am sure i would have had another 3-5 MPH. Kinda rushed her getting to the track had a engine code at the time plus i feel the car picked up a lot more power after a couple of weeks of driving with the cam.

If you are out my way by UBC feel free to pop by and I am sure i can arrange for a test ride

Anyways Later

Are you briging it out to mission anytime soon again ?? Id love to hear it / ride in it !! Better yet , bring it out to dyno day

What do you guys think about this cam ???

LPE G2-3

207 220 573 580 117.5 ( now 118.5 LSA )

Supposed to make over 400 rwhp with heads and better than stock idle and drivability .
