Is mission too far for you guys?
Is mission too far for you guys?
Everyone knows that the import scene is growing real fast. A huge population of these racers reside in Richmond and street race. Why? well, for one thing, there's no 1/4 mile track they want to go to...it's too far. instead of richmond and the whole lower mainland police departments spending so much useless money on fatter ticket books, super radars, speed traps, even undercover luxury cars ( yes, apparently they have them) why not build us a 1/4 track in Richmond or something? better yet, in Langley so people can meet up in PK then go to the track. Open at night late into the night and on weekends and such away from residential areas. Some noise restrictions would be a must, too. and if all that fails, there's enough Import guys, Mustang guys, GM guys, VW guys, and Mopar guys to pitch in their money to build a damn track.
I'd be willing to put my time and money into it so that I could go there.
There should be an enourmous car enthusiast cruise to promote the idea of the new track. The media would cover it and our voices would be heard. Just my 0.02

There are probably a few legal reasons that get in the way and that is why it hasn't been done yet. The upfront cost of getting something like mission started is probably a couple of million dollars.....
This topic has come up several times... the biggest two problems are NIMBY and liability/insurance.
NIMBY (not in my backyard) basically means that no neighbourhood or region would want a track in their vicinity. Reasions for this include noise, traffic, and even property values.
Liability - we live in an age where any accident leads to a lawsuit. Who would want to underwrite this, and thus be held accountable to legal action when (not if) it occurs?
I am sure everyone here would love a local track, and it is always a possibility - however it will take some serious work to beat down the NIMBY syndrome and to find someone to underwrite the liability/insurance issues.

A little while back there was actually a serious car accident directly related to the Auto-X event happening at the time. I beleive there were some spectators involved as well - I'm not sure if anyone was killed. There were numerous investigations by the police, insurance companies, etc. and as a result, events on that property have even more rules/restrictions.
Imagine buiding an all-out race track with cars reaching triple digit speeds
