I was wondering the same thing. I love those cars, they look awesome. Didnt they make a street version or a car without all the decals that was some kind of street version?? I remember there was a plain white and a light blue(I think) advertised as Players 1LE cars for sale when I was looking for my car

As the recent owner/driver of an '89 1LE R7U (1 of 111) I congratulate you on your purchase! Its obviously in immaculate original shape, and i can't say ours was very original once I spent 4 years racing it again. If you lack any information on the car or series, I might be able to help. Take care of that important piece of Canada's racing history, it can only become more valuable in the future! (Must be strange to have a Camaro you can't mod!)

Congratulations - these cars have such a great history and the subtle differences are what make them so secretive. As you mentioned with the racing heritage, that is a 91 but does not have the airbag wheel - probably swapped out after its run in with the wall or other cars. It is kind of weird that GM did not think to delete the air bag in those cars from the factory, but I know the street 1le's had them.

I would be interested to see the power ratings for one of these, because although they used the same parts as the regular 230 hp / 300 tq street z28's, they were balanced and blueprinted, which had to have been good for some more. I think the reason they didn't go crazy on the power was to keep the series competitive - ie. they didn't want people chnging out cams and stuff so they sealed various bolts with that yellow paint to maintain a visible factory seal.

yes I was wondering about the airbag wheel too, im going to contact the guy who actually raced the car and see what he says... im wondering if he pulled it out as soon as her got it as I was told you were allowed to... I dunno for certain, my friend had one too and his had the airbag so I guess mines an odd one out. I would like to dyno it just to get the number straight.. but according to the book its just 230 hp. They were all kept the same so the drivers would be in competition against each other and not their cars

I did put our '89 on a Mustang Dyno a few years back. Stock (yes, with the little yellow paint marks still on everything) it managed 227 at the rear wheels! The only 'upgrades' I had done at that time were to de-screen the MAF and to shim the fuel pressure regulator (I can say this in public now, 'cuz I don't race the car in Production anymore ) oh, and a real dual side exhaust, similar to the series original. It did NOT have the special off-road PCU board in it at that time though.

Very nice rare racing machine although the hp ratings are low. Would you mind telling us how much you paid?

Very cool man. I watched the Camaro's race at Indy. I dont remember what year it was however. It would be cool to think that your new car was one of them.
