Cam Swap Weekend

Day 1: well there were a few of use all starting to rip apart the topend of my motor on Day on Erik, Shawn, Cory, and even mike showed up what a guy. It was pretty smooth at the start, but like always we started to hit a few snags on the way... at this time we got all the front off, pumps and what not... got the timing cover off, and found out i have a double roller chain which is good, but was pretty loose. from there we had a beatch of a time getting the ballancer off, and from there we started to incounter little things here and there, we lost the "o-ring" seals on 2 valves and they fell... good thing they were exhaust valves so we took off the headers, and tryed to push them back up... no luck..... Sooo off come the heads... all i have now was just the bear block with the bottom end left wow work, erik working on the head getting the new springs on and what not... as cory was droping in lifters, and other technical thingy-ma-bobs... haha ya and mike left, he had things to do hahaha.. ya..

at the end of Day 1 we got the everything off, done and put back on...

Day 2.

well its day 2 and its still not done, we still have to put all the pumps back on and what not... couldn't finish it last time... didn't have the plugs for the new manifold... by old one didn't have... other then that cory should be here soon, and we will get this beast running in no time.

i will keep everyone updated on whats going on.

yes i would also like to thank, Eirk, cory, and yes mike for the work that they did, i wouldn't of gotta any of this done at ALL!

but most of all i would like to give a special thanks out to shawn to be nice enough of lend me drive way space (guess he likes those black f-bodys on jack stands. Also given me a place to stay for the nite. What a guy!

no worrys we had alot of ppl here anyways... well we keep hitting little snags... god i hate it, its seems that the caps on the springs for the exhaust ports are to large, so the lift isn't right or something, so corys off to home then lordco, pickin up some more crap...

no....

Day 2 was a very interesting day, well it seems that the valves were making contact with the pistons....

but thank god BEST BUY IS THE BEST STORE EVER! my bud Russ from the vancouver store, and trever i believe from the surrey store, came to shawns house to lend a hand i would like to see mopac do that!

but they got it, and its all together now... just that its way to late to be braking in the cam, so it will be done tomorrow when cory gets off work

Yeah, I couldn't believe it myself. Fabulous service.

What it boils down too - as best I could understand from Cory. Someone previously had installed the sprocket on the crankshaft in the wrong position. Thank the God's above that Cory had the foresight to manually turn the motor over because he noticed the valves hitting the pistons. If he had NOT made that check then it would be game over for the motor.

Cory had basically diagnosed that the sproket was on wrong at almost the moment the Best Buy guy showed up and then he double checked and concurred with Cory. We did not have a tool to pull the crank sprocket off so I believe they were able to deduce the "correct" position for the cam sprocket. They then cranked by hand and everything was fine.

However, that sucked up a lot of time and we were unable to get things finished up before 10.00. I have neighbours and Cory had to work so we (they) will finish up today.

hey, well its lopy and will be more so when the i get it tuned.

well i never did make it home, didn't even make it to the highway, it stalled and never started again after that, it turned over and over and over..... left it for about 15mins then tryed again... clickclickclickclickclick..... so i had to get the damn car towed to my machanics shop, and ill get them to fix everything up tomorrow.... get it running, tune it, and get the throttle fixed so i get full throttle. Its pretty loud then stock though the exhaust, and its going to be crazy loud when the cutouts are open

Sigh... well i sleep now and worry about things tomorrow

Damn. Sorry to hear that. Were you not able to bump start it? I guess not.

Yup, I'd say that was not a fun experience.

Hopefully the end result will put a grin on your grill.
