Hey guys,

First time really posting on here. Been a member here for a little while as I bought a t56 from another member on here for my '86 monte carlo ss.

My name is Jason and I live in Traverse city MI. I just bought a 95 z28 A4 convertible. not crazy about the rag top but its growing on me. The car has 150k miles and is all stock except for a rebuilt tranny that shifts really firm. Needs a few cosmetic fix's but is a solid car. I dont know for sure what gears are in this thing but they must be really high. at 55 mph its only turning around 1500 rpm's. What would be a good gear to go with? 3:73's or 4:10's? When I change the gears is there any vendors or company's that could do a custom tune for the car? looking to keep the car relatively stock, maybe gut the cat, a flowmaster muffler and gears/tune.

Thanks in advance for the help guys, Heres pictures.

Welcome to the board. :)

The tech forums are the best area for specific answers to technical "stuff."

As I recall, the A4 came stock with 3.23 gearing and 3.73 is a good general street gear change that doesn't kill the gas mileage too much. The stock cats actually flow pretty well. I recall buying an after market cat for my 1994 but after carefully examining it decided to retain the stock one as it looked like it would flow better than the so called performance cat.

The best mods I did in terms of bang for the buck, performance, reliability, and retaining street comfort were headers, shifter (I had a M6 originally), gears, and a tune. Once I started racing every weekend it was a different story but for good general street use the headers provided me a measurable bang for the buch while the cat back did not (except it sounded much better). :D

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the rpo code and the car does have 2:73 gears currently. So anything would be better! Who does the best tuning and would it make a noticeable difference?

Nice car. Same color and year as mine, except mine is t-top. Sounds like a quick one too

Traverse City...awesome area. I only go as far up as Houghton Lake these days, but Mission Point is on my top 5 places to be on the planet.

Welcome to the site!
