Forgotten treasure?

Many recommended this site. Thank you. In 1984 my father walked into Parker Robb Chevrolet in Walnut Creek California and bought a brand new red1985 Iroc Z28 Camero off the showroom floor. The dealer informed him that the car was one of a limited series of 500 called the "California promotional package". My father loved that car. After about 35 thousand miles however the car started to break down. Cooling issues, transmission problems, timing and other major and minor repairs prompted Dads mechanic to tell my Dad the car was plagued with problems and that my Dad should just sell it and move on. Instead my Dad had the entire drive train re built properly and stock with the exception of a roller type timing gear, brass radiator and electric radiator fans. He also had V series racing tires mounted all around. The car was always garaged, maintained meticulously and truly loved.<br /> In 1998 I bought the car. I now live in the Northern California foothills and haven't driven this car in 17 years. I start it and keep fresh premium in the tank. I keep it in my shop. I mentioned the car to a chevy guy I met a couple of weeks ago and he had heard of this car but it was rare. I contacted Chevy and they say they have no knowledge of the car being built. I have the window sticker framed and mounted under glass. The numbers match the car. The list if options includes " California promotional package " second to last on the options. This was a credit of 75 dollars. I would really appreciate any information about this car. Also this car is parked in my shop. It belongs in a collection. If it is rare I dont think I'll be driving it. Thank you very much!

I'm not personally familiar with the details, but there are articles online:
