Speeding ticket questions?

A state trooper got the gf for going 65 in a 50 on rte 2 in Shelburne, MA. He circled 3 boxes, Posted, Radar(S), and Esimated. Anyone know what the 'S' means that he hand wrote next to the Radar? Also, why would he have circled both Radar & Estimated? I am trying to talk her into going for a hearing to at the least have it reduced, or better yet, dropped. I am hoping if she puts on a good enough show the court will give her a break (she works 2 jobs, was running late for work, traveling w/ the flow of traffic...) or maybe, the trooper won't show up? Can't hurt trying...

have her go for a hearing regardless, with no excuses if there was heavy traffic it leaves room for error, estimated means guessed how fast, she could just say she was doing 5 miles over the limit or if the limit changed within a half mile she could say she was slowing down e.t.c.

My suspicion is that posted is the actual speed limit as per road signage. Radar(s) means his radar was triggered to go off at a particular speed above the posted limit, and Estimated is the actual speed which was not recorded due to his radar being set go go off at a particular speed point as opposed to recording the actual speed of as vehicle.

All she should so is to say that as part of commonly known best driving practices in heavy traffice she was maintaining the speed of cars around her as to not create a moving hazard or accident. In regards to the accuracy of the speed measurement by the officer, if he did not capture her actual speed then he did not actually capture the speed data relating to her particular car as there was heavy traffic. She should not dispute the accuracy of his signal, but the accuracy of his aim as most likely the radar was mounted and not hand held with too many cars to isolate any one car in particular.

The fact that he was able to pull her over is a credit to her safe driving practices rather than her going too slow and creating an accident. If the officer was truly concerned about safe driving he would have been pacing cars while moving as opposed to pulling over vehicles and creating a more hazardous situation.

Re: Speeding ticket questions?

Thanks for the responses. ...actually she was heading west and he was heading east towards her. As soon as he put his lights on (in front of her, coming at her), she looked at her speedo and realized it must have been for her, so she began to pull over. He had to drive past her and do a U turn to come up behind her parked. Thanks again. -Jeff

>good luck
always fight the ticket ... as you said earlier they most likely will offer to reduce the fine, but she will still get nailed with the surcharge (Thanks Massachusetts )

also ensure that she has enough information to make it look professional for the magistrate nothing looks cheesier than standing in front of "the man" looking like you just put this together in the hallway.

Re: Speeding ticket questions?

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS fight the ticket. I had 3 speeding tickets in 7 hours. I beat 2 completely and payed half on the 90mph one. I still have my license and 1 surcharge. Make sure she fights it. Even if she loses the first time appeal and if the cops doesn't show up, she wins. If she has a clean record chances are they're gonna let her go.

their radar guns work when they are driving, they are pretty cool actually(when you in the cop car) it displays the cruisers speed, target speed, the car being clocked speed, and one other one i forgot.
