It's gone...

Well, the unimaginable happened. My garage caught fire and is completely leveled. The 'bird was inside and is totally destroyed. My 19' Sea Ray was also destroyed, and the house has to be gutted. I am VERY thankful that my girlfriend and our 2 kids made it out fine. But what a mess everything is.

Sad to see my bird go, as I've had it since new, and have thousands of dollars and hours into it. But it's just a car, and way more relieved that my family is OK. Homeowners/Auto insurances will cover it all, so that is good.

Haven't had to buy a "fun" car in the last seven years, but I'd have to say the new C6 is gonna be on the top of my list...

OMG! That's so aweful to hear. We are glad that you and your loved ones are OK. That really is important.

But I hear ya about it being just a car. Trust me I'm so **** about my car. I swear I pay more attention to her (the car) than my husband. But after being rear ended last year. I thought I'd loose it on the guy (or anyone) who hit us/me. But I ask huuby to deal with the situation. I stayed away as I would of decked him. And as I was sitting away from the car all I realized is I'm pretty much OK. My husband is OK. And that's all I cared about at that moment. I was just glad we were OK.

If we can help let us know.

>It's great that your family is safe , but sorry for the loss

Dude, that sucks.

Is the house still livable, or do you have to hole up in a hotel for the time being? Saw a lot of that when I was working with my brother doing fire & water repairs.

Glad to hear that the fam is okay, though. Cars are replaceable, people are not.

We're stuck in a hotel until Friday, when they are supposed to put a trailer up for us to stay in while renovations begin.

It was a HUGE relief that all of us are fine. Another minute or two one way or the other, and I would have been a goner.

I guess one decent part about this, is that I will have a practically brand new house and garage. For once in my life, I have something positive to say about insurance! It will be kinda fun looking for another hot rod too. Can't decide, new tech or old school? Unfortunately, I'll never see any of the zillions of hours I had into the 'bird.

Thanks for all the kind words! You guys are the best.

Garage caught fire, and proceeded to set off my nitrous oxide tank, a propane tank, gasoline, about 35 aerosol cans, and finally, the 'birds gasoline tank. Was so violent, that debris landed on my house and boat, setting them on fire. Probably would have been cool to watch if it was in a movie, and not my house.

Well coming from his little brother, who also spent a lot of time under the hood of the car....this really stinks! Well on the brighter side, both my niece and nephew are sitting on their couch right now smiling and having fun like children should. Cars can be replaced, and done over faster than ever -- Family however is irreplacable and is of course first priority.

Looks like I'll have to throw down on all the dorks in town that have stickers and glue-on hood scoops til he gets another hot rod in the garage....

I'd much rather be in the paper for leaving 500' of burnout down main street....
