Post First trip to NEDragway this year:=)

All hail the Vigilante 3200 and excellent track prep(for a Wednesday night).

First run was a 13.041/102.43 MPH with a 1.739 60 ft. Backed that up with a 13.039/102.52MPH with a 1.752 60 ft. The extra stall (3200 from 2800) probably hurt my MPH some. DARN, THOSE F'N 12's!!!!

That SRA transmission was shifting crisply.
No more delayed shifts and hitting the rev limiter on the 2 to 3 like was happening all of the last two years.

These runs were with stock MAF and stock computer program. Last years best number, in the sig., was with Granetelli MAF and Hypertech. I need to figure out what combo is the best (stock MAF, Gran. MAF, stock program, Hypertech). I may be in the minority, but have always appeared to gain around 1.5 to 2 MPH with Hypertech programming, unlike many others.

My third run was poor because the lane gal wouldn't guide me to the waterbox, or just coudn't read my lips or hand signals from inside the car. (The lane guy guided me the first two times.) After wasting everyones precious seconds, I did a decent burnout any ways. But I think smoke from under the wells screwed up my staging lights, it caught me off guard and I didn't know what the freak was happening. Needless to say, I probably PO'd that Pearl Blue WRX that was waiting for me, which probably seemed like hours to him.

Still a great time though. There was a Lingenfelter TB Vette running low to mid 11's w/o hooking up. I think he said he had mid 10's when he was hooking up.

I agree, Vigilante makes a hell of a converter.

Hmmm and Chevy94C said the track sucked

Glad to hear Buddy took good care of ya. I had my tranny done there as well and Buddy does excellent tranny work.

Are you running a T-com?

Looks like it's time to throw it on the dyno over at New England Dyno and Tuning www.nedyno.com to see which combo makes more power.

Marc,

I was lucky enough to get there early and be one of the first to go. The track probably got progressively worse throughout the night. Got three runs in from 6 to 7:30.

Pretty much have neglected "tuning" up until now. I have just been going back in forth between hypertech and stock. I'm anticipating the state of MA giving us grief with their new "plug-in" emissions so I don't want to mess with the stock program. Will dyno tuning allow you to go back to stock in some manner when needed?

(I know I could still use the dyno for the combo thing because the MAF and hypertech can be easily changed)

T-com? Is that the little laptop you plug in
while racing that monitors everything?

Steve

Marc it did suck. A bunch if kids with LS1's said they couldn't hook up. Probly after fun ford weekend the track is better.I remember somebody bought a B&M or TCI and said it was not that much of a differance.

POLO97Z awesome times. I think the vigilante is the best mod out there for the A4 cars. How did you do on the emission testing. My car passed.

chevy94c,

Thankyou. I still want my first 12's.

Glad to hear you passed;=)

My car passed emissions back in March. I recall the 3 readings (HC,NO and CO?) were well below acceptable levels.

I never got questioned on anything with reguards to loud exhaust(which it ain't until WOT)or the headers or cold air. I had CARB numbers ready. Don't know if I had to worry about gears or converter. Don't know if the state's
computer does the math to determine different gear ratios or higher stall speeds.

Hey Marc,

Made it up to NED the other night for my first 1/4 mile run ever! I'm hooked but I can't drive worth $HIT. My best run was a 12.754@113.5mph with a 2.20 60'. I was running on stock street tires with 32psi in them. Well, I'm going to have to get some pointers from you.

Is the car done?

Mark

Were you spinning the whole way down the track? mph seems a little low for all the hp you have.

Hi,

Yup, spun a lot. Also, the car weighs in at 3,840lbs. with me in it and 1/2 tank of gas. So, the MPH is pretty much right on given that weight. Yup, the car is a porker.

nice ride! I am currently in the middle of my heads and cam install (XE230/236 and mild stage 1 heads). Hopefully I put down similar 1/4 times as you. My Z weighed in at 3560 w/me and 1/4 tank of gas.

The hypertech shouldn't affect the diagnostic routines in the pcm, which is what the OBD test is querying your pcm for. If you pass this test you don't have to take an actual emissions test anymore. So, in theory, as long as you keep your stock pcm happy, you should be all set.

jgeorger,

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll worry about tuning when the heads and cam are done in the future. That is if this can be done w/o "upsetting" the states computer. From strictly an emissions stand point, these cars can be had w/ alot of hp and still burn cleanly.

The only issue I'm aware of is that, depending on your cam, your car may have a lumpy enough idle so that the pcm thinks the car is missing, which would fail you for the test. One simple solution would be raise the idle, which is typical in a cammed car anyway. I also hear that the authors of LT1-Edit have added (or will add) the ability to change the conditions of the misfire test to make it more forgiving so a cam won't upset the pcm. Otherwise, as long as your EGR, AIR, and rear O2's (cats) are intact you should pass no problem. And from what I understand, you will be able to fail one or two of those and still pass.

Joe
