traction w/ 100 shot on street tires?

I've got crappy street tires. I'm at 375rwhp now and don't get **** for traction. However, lets say I do a 100 shot and slowly ramp up the power. Is there any hope for traction?

not at lower speeds....you would need to use a delay and ramp....just put a tire on it and call it a day:cool:

I'm right where you are power wise (380rwhp). For some reason I have no traction issues off a slow roll spraying in first gear...can't tell you why really. I run street tires and only weight in the trunk include the bottle and maybe 75lbs of stereo. However at the track, I spin like crazy in first and second with sometimes into third. Get some sticky DR's and call it a day.

nittos will hold at that level pretty decent. there are other choices that are better though.

DRs may be an issue here in rainy southern Louisiana. I was thinking I could feather the throttle and spray from a roll. 275 front, 315 rear combo, btw.

I ran a set of 315 Nittos for almost 12K miles they actually get pretty decent wet traction when they still have tread....but once they start to go bald watch out

Which ones?

555r's...the drag radials

Of your running a WOT switch then feathering the throttle will cut the juice....

maro z28 Aug 21, 2007 11:47 PM

What I mean is gradually throttling(is that even a word?) to WOT. If I just mash the throttle, I'll spin. but if I start from say 1/2 throttle and stomp it, I won't.

Buy some cheap wheels and put some MT street radials on them for the track. Great tire.

Progressive controller.

I was making @ 600 when everything was said and done on my last combo (no current dynos) and I could spray on the street.

Granted I never tried from a dead stop but from a slight roll as long as I could hook NA (380ish) I did not spin as the power came on.

-3500 on 10%
-4500 100%

One trip out to the track I was having throttle cable issues. I was launching NA. Only 89% throttle was showing on the datalogs. I was also getting an unusually low 1.7 - 1.9 60 ft times that day on street tires. Typicaly I would expect consistent 2.0 60 ft. times. I later fixed the cable and was showing 100% throttle and my 60 ft times went back up.

this is the key....if you aren't hooking on motor adding nitrous is going to make it worse.

Yes the progressive will bring the power in easier...but you will have to be able to hook NA first;)

Definetly try better tires and maybe a rpm window switch.
