TR6's or Autolite 103's

I am not currently running nitrous but plan to in the near future.

1. Is running a colder plug going to hurt my NA performance?
2. Which plug do you reccomend??

Re: TR6's or Autolite 103's

A colder plug helps prevent pre-ignition caused by a hot spark plug igniting the fuel mixture before the spark plug actually fires. The risk of running a colder plug is that the plugs can get fouled (carbon build-up causing plugs to get excessively black). The proper heat range plug is designed to be self cleaning; it runs hot enough to burn off deposits. Bottom line is you'll have to monitor your spark plugs to determine if you're running the right heat range. Most guys with slightly modified motors running modest shots of nitrous do well with TR6 plugs or Autolite 104s.

I like the autolite AR103 race plugs, regular autolite 103 plugs, then NGK tr6 plugs in that order. The AR103 work the best for me because I have found they don't foul out as bad over time.

I have ran a 150shot for 4 years and recently bumbed to a 175shot for about the last year on a bone stock longblock with 0 problems. I am currently building a 383 and plan to up the nitrous in the 200-250 range with a TNT kit!

Re: TR6's or Autolite 103's

The last 30,000 miles the car has had nitrous on it. It is my secondary car so I don't drive it all of the time, but almost everytime I take it out it is for a street race which is where almost all the mileage is from. It has many, many bottles ran through it and still runs perfectly. It doesn't even smoke and still has perfect compression. I just want more power and have been saving to finish my 383 build-up!

lt1lt1 - Where can I get the AR104 plugs?

TR6s always foul out after 1 bottle in my car. 104s are perfect.

Sparkplugs.com carries them in stock. I think summit racing started selling them also. Most places that sell autolite should be able to get them. They are a little pricey but well worth it in my opinion. They have a thicker, shorter ground strap with a cut back electrode and with a copper core. They are the best in my opinion.

Re: TR6's or Autolite 103's

I have used all three and personally have had the best luck with the autolite AR103 plugs. It is not to say the NGK's are junk (because they are not) but I just have had better luck with the autolite race plugs. I have not tested every plug made so I can't vouch for every plug made but from what I have used personally the autolite race plugs have been the best. So good, I probably will never have to try another plug.

What is the difference between AR104 and just 104's?
