spraying without tuning?

my car runs rich as it is (starting at 11.5, then upwards to 12.1 as it climbs through the RPM's). possible to run a 100shot without having it tuned?
have the ngk tr6 in already and a madz28 tune for normal bolt-on car.

how many people on here are running it without tuning?
thanks in advance, brian

Re: spraying without tuning?

Your wet nitrous shot will be tuned with the fuel and nitrous jets. You'll need a retard box. No reason you can't spray on your current tune. You optimize the PCM tune for running NA, so you don't give up any HP. Then you use the jets to tune the spray, and alter the timing externally.

Just curious.... why do you not get the tune corrected, rather than continuing to run it rich?

Re: spraying without tuning?

the car is running rich due to an exhaust leak on the drver side header, tried fixing it over winter. didnt happen. i have a broken bolt in the head adn its gettin out of that one area real good. so if i understand this correctly, if i have madz28 lean it out, once i hook it back up the computer is just goin to see the xtra air coming and give it more gas? does that sound right?

so i wasnt planning on doing anything with it till i can get the bolt out and fixed or till i do heads.
i should have sent madz28 an email a long time ago, just never did. but if it is possible to have him lean it out and the tune will stay good with the exhaust leak, i will the pcm out soon.

Nitrous jet combos recommended from the manufacturer are based on a stock Z28. Given the times in your signature, it doesn't sound like your engine is stock. Your safest bet is to verify your nitrous/fuel jets based on dyno/wideband O2 tuning, otherwise you'll be running rich or lean. Cheap insurance in my opinion.

i would set back you timing.... those tunes are usally advancing the timing a tiny bit.. so you will have to bring it back to safley run the shot...

I have a stock tune and im still going to bring hte timing back at least 2 degrees while spraying

Its running rich because of exhaust leaks, but you're going to have MadZ28 tune it leaner, rather than fix the exhaust leaks? Seems sort of backwards. I'd fix the basic components like the exhaust before diving into nitrous. One thing at a time.

If i had to do it all over i would have done head and cam when i broke my header bolt off:D Just a little insight.
