Then when you shift out of first gear the pedal micro sw acts as normal because both sws are now closed, or making contact. This is for a single stage set up. Wiring using this method in a dual stage set-up is a little differnt. Hope this makes sense.
Here is the pic for anyone reading along.

Second description worded a little different.
It's a three prong type WOT micro sw from radio hack. You can wire it inline with standard wot under pedal, but it must be backwards, and thus three prongs instead of two. Meaning, when in 1st gear it will still break the connection going to pedal wot sw and as soon as you shift out of 1st then standard wot sw works as normal. This is for a single stage, and I have mine wired up to keep my 2nd stage out of 1st gear. Hope this makes sense.

Yeah, Dave, that's what I want to do. I'm still unclear as to how to wire it. What does he mean, "wire it opposite" with a 3 prong switch?

It is a micro switch from Radio Shack....I might be wrong as I have not installed one, but the way I understand it is this switch has 3 terminal instead of 2 that way you can wire the switch as either a normal open or normal closed switch. The instructions that would come with the microswitch would clarify the order to wire the terminals.

You will want to wire the switch so the when it is pressed it breaks the circuit.
