Nitrous and Longetivity

When squeezing casually (not at every light, but hitting it maybe 5 times a week or so), how many miles may one expect to see out of a motor before maintainence is required (large things such as rings, pistons, rods, crank?).

Will a 150 shot affect the longetivity of say a stock LT1, LS1, or L98? What about spraying more...say a 200 shot on a built motor, with forged crank/rods/pistons, studded 4-bolt straight caps, etc.

stikshift....it dusnt matter what size bottle you use. whether u use a 5lb, 10lb, 15lb, or even a 100lb bottle its not gonna matter. where would u get that from? also, obviously it depends what kinda shot u use...a 300 shot on a stock bottom end surely will not last long at all...but instead of giving useless information to up your post count, why dont you only post when you have something helpful to add...im sure many people on this board would appreciate that

The size of the bottle means nothing. You can have a 2lb bottle or 2-15lb bottles, doesnt make a difference at all..

i know this is not what you're going to want to hear, but theres no real answer to your question. nobody can give you an estimate on how long your motor will live with n2o.

obviously, the more often it's used and the amount you're using will play a big role. the best advice i can give you is to just look at how long other people, with a simular car to yours (mods/mileage/etc), motors have lasted and make your judgment from that.

so, to try and help, MY Z is a 96 A4 car. its mostly stock as you can see from my sig. i started with a 100 and now am at a 150. i've had the kit on for about 5-6 months now and have prolly put 10 10lb bottles or so through. the only thing ive had to fix since the install was a leaking intake gasket.

I agree, each car reacts differently to n20. No one can predict anything until u spray yourself. Thats the only for sure answer.

Well thanks guys. I'm just wondering how long a motor will last if it is built with high buck parts vs. a cheap rebuild. I saw in CHP I believe where they made 600hp on a '75 chevelle 350 bottom end. For the old muscle car guys, that might just be the way to go, and if a motor lasts 25k, go buy another $500-$1000 low compression scrap pile motor. EZ 500 or so hp and its cheap...just don't take the thing cross country.

i spray 125 now, and ive never had a problem. I know that im running real rich, and id say that thats one of the biggest things to worry about. Timing and air/fuel ratio are key. as we all know, 14.7 to 1 is perfectly stoich, but thats in a perfect world. i feel that 12:1 is about good. you know your rich, but the way any motor is designed, theres no way to know for sure that equal amounts of air, nitrous, and gas will be in each cylinder. pull the timing to keep the chances of detonation down to a minimum, and im sure a stock ls1 will handle the juice. they say that 150-175 is pushin it for a ls1, but 75 is conservative. As for an lt1, i believe the stock fuel pump will only support a 75 shot, but ive heard that a 100 shot is pushing it for a stocker. with forged parts and a some bucks, im sure it wouldnt be a problem to spray 200, but then it comes down to the rest of the being able to handle that kind of power, and how big your ***** are. with the 125 shot, the tires are loose all the way to 75 when i let off. and my stage 2 heads and cam are on order...

It should also be noted that i rarely use the juice, occassionally on the street, and like 7 runs down the track. Total, i bet ive only put about 4-6 bottles through in about a year and a half, still running strong though(unbeaten on the street, racing z06's too, not just rustangs).

it will depend on the fact of how often u spray it and what kinda condition ur car is in right now...every1 tends to say "dont run a power adder unless u have the $ and/or time to do a rebuild in the future".

from fast and the furious...c'mon now, that movie is the bible to street racing

on a stock motor, 125 shot would be the most i would use (depending on the age of the motor, ie: L98). you can build a motor to handle pretty much however big a shot you want to. and how often you use it also plays a factor.
