N2O system
 

i have a 93 z28 383 stroker 6speed with a few bolt ons. i was wondering if i can install a N2O system into it. i live in california and i dont know if it'll pass smog. i heard it will pass if i don't open the bottle. can somebody please inform me? thank you :)

I'm pretty sure any part installed on the engine in CA requires a CARB-EO number to be displayed on it. NOS used to make a dry nitrous kit for the LT1 that was called 5176-EO. I bought my 94 brand new in CA and installed that kit in 1995. Had a sticker with the CARB-EO number on it. I don't think NOS still makes that kit.

Other things to think about... for example, in NJ N2O is considered a controlled dangerous substance (drug) because people sniff it. Even though the odorant in nitrous sold for automotive purposes is enough to make you not want to sniff it, NJ still requires that you have a permit issued by the state's "Health and Senior Services" department, in order to buy or transport nitrous.

Check with someone who is up to date on CA emissions law. I left many years ago. But I doubt they have made things any easier.

Other options would be a "hidden" system, or a system you can remove when you go for your emissions check. Then the issue turns to motor vehicle laws (as opposed to emissions). What happens when a cop pulls you over and sees your bottle? Again, you need to review the laws specific to CA.
