major ZEX kit problem

just got my dry kit installed on my LT1 and got the bottle filled yesterday. Last night I tried it out, and when the nitrous is injected, the car basicly just starts sputtering and you can feel the nitrous working, and then stopping... just surging and not having a constant flow. I also hit it from a stop once... and the car backfired really bad, and my service engine soon light came on right away... I thought I was without a motor, but it's still running fine but now I'm afraid to try it again. My intake duct elbow is ripped a little on the bottom... that's the only thing I know that's wrong with the car itself...

What kind of shot were you running? 75, 100, or 125?

Did you install the included inline fuel pump?

What kind of spark plugs do you have? Are you running colder range plugs? Did you re-gap them?

Need more details on your setup....

installed the fuel pump booster... running a 125 shot.... and the previous owner changed the plugs for nitrous but I guess I don't know what kind of plugs. I'll take one out and check them out. What's the gap have to be for them?

thanks, maybe I'll switch out plugs then to those as long as you're pretty positive that would be my problem.

I would at least pull one to check the brand/model # and the gap to make sure. It sounds like the culprit

I would get this fixed before the next Nitrous burn. With a tear there is unmeasured air getting in the engine, can lead to lean condition. This could be more of a problem than what you realize. An open hole has less restriction than the air filter, so it's going to pull as much air through that hole as it can.

wow, found the problem for sure

I took out 3 plugs... 2 of them completely had their tips broke off, I don't even see how they were getting spark! And they ended up being the stock plugs... previous owner lied to me about having nitrous plugs in it...

Just curious what the plug was (brand and #)? Hopefully they weren't platinums....although sounds like they might have been.

Re: major ZEX kit problem

I'm surprised it didn't run like total crap before. One of my friends had the vortech intake elbow with the divider in it and he wasn't getting the nitrous evenly distributed to each side, same thing happened.

good luck, it should be fine now
