95 z28 nos

OK guys a lot of ppl have been putting nos on there stock motors. i was wondering how would a 95 z28 with 128,000 miles on it hold up to a 100 shot
or 150 shoot. i have a transmission that was went through and every thing upgraded that could be. it is still the 4l60e automatic. any help on how an lt1
takes nos would be helpful or will i successfully blow my motor. that would suck thx for the input.

You shouldn't have any problems with a 100 shot, but for peace of mind, you may want to have a leakdown test done to make sure the motor is healthy. Also, some other things I would consider would be better injectors (pintle style) if using a dry kit or an upgraded fuel pump such as the Racetronix 255lph if using a wet kit. Also, one-step colder, non-platinum spark plugs such as the NGK TR-6s or Autolite 104s, a bottle heater, a fuel pressure safety switch, and a purge valve are all very valuble to have. Last but not least, I would look into a window switch and a way to pull timing, which brings me to the Mallory 685 ignition box. Not only will it boost your ignition signal, but it also has a built-in window switch and timing retard function.

The things to know about your motor and fuel situation are important if you want to use a power adder; those being the condition of your engine and fuel supply. If you have good oil pressure and know that the engine was well maintained then you are off to a good start. IMHO you must monitor your fuel pressure and if going to 150 hp you need to boost the fuel supply. A fuel pressure gauge is the first safety step. Then either a bigger fuel pump or an additional in-line fuel pump. Don't think just buying a kit is the end of spending because you are only about half way there. The second thing you really need to know is your air/fuel mix before and when using the nitrous. The cheapest and most difficult way is to read your plugs. The easiest and most expensive is to buy a wideband O2 analyzer kit like AEM, Innovate or PLX but even then you need to look at each plug to be sure you don't have a weak injector on one cylinder. I'm not saying learning to use these O2 kits is easy but once you are up and running with them reading and adjusting becomes convenient and efficient.

The quick and easy kits cannot offer safety no matter what claims are made. A simple failure to provide enough fuel when pouring 150 hp worth of nitrous oxide into a high compression engine is critical. A small moment of failure is a prescription for destruction. To protect an expensive engine when using nitrous takes time consuming reading, money and some wrenching.

The fun part is feeling like someone just bumped the back of your car and begins pushing on it hard past 100. The un-fun is if you spin a bearing or melt away the top piston ring land and aluminum head material. Pooled nitrous in the intake can explode and take out your MAF and/or bend the throttle body plate.

I have the fuel pressure stuff mentioned as well as a way to monitor spark knock and air/fuel (innovate lm-1 - lma-2). I also installed a spark control system that manages timing retard and a window of operation for the nitrous system. What I lack is much experience so you can take my advice FWIW.

Welcome to this place.

Yes, if you take the precautions, your motor should continue living a healthy life even with the addition of nitrous.

NOS = brand name, so I am going to assume you are talking about stickers. No your stock lt1 can not handle the additional power from the stickers.

Lots of research is the best way to tackle any mod. Same goes here. If you don't understand how every piece of the system works, and why it works, then spend more time learning. This isn't to be mean, but rather just to say that it will bite you if you don't respect it.

That's why I left those zex stickers off my car, I figured the advertisement would be my undoing.

I have been testing the n2o a little bit at a time through the summer. Was quite shocked when I installed a scanmaster and saw 9 degrees of knock retard and a very lean moment of recording. I have invested in a wideband to see if I can sort out what is happening before breaking things.
