Isn't Pomona Speedway also called "California Speedway" They have an awesome 1/4 mile track. I haven't been there myself, but I've heard from many other camaro/firebird owners.

California Speedway is located north of I10 in Fontana. Pomona Raceway is a part of the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds north of I10 in Pomona. I've heard good things about the Fontana facility but we havn't had a chance to race there yet. Pomona Raceway is a good track but it only runs on specific occasions such as Super Chevy, Goodguys, and NHRA events.

Don't overlook the 1/8th mile track at Irwindale Speedway that runs on Thursday nights. The traction is excellent and although some people are turned off by the length of the track it's possible to learn a great deal about your car as long as the starting line is good. I've been to Irwindale a time or two to help people dial-n their combinations and I even ran my LT1 Super Stocker there last winter. I recommend it highly.

I must confess that I race in a somewhat different world than most of those who post here. My 1997 Firebird Formula WS6, although it is a non-power assisted LT1, is neither street legal nor muffled. As a result, I only go to Irwindale occasionally. Locally, we run Pomona Raceway National Events such as the Winternationals and World Finals. The closest 1/4 mile track that can regularly accommodate my car is at Palmdale, LA County Raceway. Street legal cars are much better off at Irwindale and Fontana.

I've never heard anything good about Fontana. Unless you call waiting in line with 500 cars to run, the track having zero traction, and it usually being hotter than hell out there good things...

It's just like Pomona's Streel Legal Drags used to be, minus the legendary name, and great track prep....

i wasnt under the impression that that was a public track i thought it was only for drag racers...

i work in pomona, and 10 miles away u can hear those things launch down the track

thats the track at the FairPlex right? where LA county fair is every year right?

donno if thats a public track but whatever

the fontana was just redone, id give it a season to put some tread on the track before going there

my friends ls1 was getting low 14's on that track

would have made him cry w/ his lt1 getting high 14's
